It seems to be an annual event, hosting a yard sale, re-selling the junk you have purchased at other people's sales, getting rid of those even-if-they-did-fit-you-would-not-be-caught-dead-in-them jeans from decades ago, hoping to make a few bucks, but more importantly, empty out the garage so that you can fill it with more stuff.

MEDA wants to encourage this kind of behavior, because we believe that getting rid of "stuff" can be, well, therapeutic if you will.

If you are considering hosting your own garage/yard/tag/etc. sale, consider donating the profits to MEDA for a tax deductible donation. Getting rid of stuff has never felt so good!

Listed below are some helpful yard sale hints. Contact meda@medainc.org with any questions or for more information. Let us know when you are having it and we will advertise for you too!

• Have large signs on the day of the sale indicating that all proceeds will go to MEDA. This makes people more likely to pay a bit more for something when they know that the money goes to a good cause.
• Make sure you advertise your yard sale! Posters and flyers around your neighborhood are excellent- especially those with arrows pointing people in the right direction! Don't forget to post the flyers at local community centers, libraries, supermarkets, bulletin boards, etc. Consider placing an ad in a local newspaper.
• Encourage your neighbors to join in as well. Multi-family yard sales draw a bigger crowd, which usually means a larger donation to MEDA!
• Have small change and bills available for buyers with large bills.
• Have a rain date! Especially in New England, you never know when the sunny day will turn to rain!
• When sending in the donation to MEDA, make sure you indicate that the money is from a MEDA hosted Yard Sale.
